8 Mobile Navigators Tested-Score and Winners

The tested mobile navigators are rated in four categories.

Installation

Applications for Iphone is installed via the App Store, and therefore there are no differences in the degree of difficulty to get the navigator programs in your phone – however, it differs a lot in time. Our site Navigator and Wisepilot are alone in the test to download maps of the mobile network for the Iphone. Other programs are several hundred megabytes large and is installed along with the maps in the phone memory which requires more time – both for download and for installation in mobile.

On other platforms, there are major differences in how the installation works. Route 66, NDrive and Copilot comes either as a download or on a disc while the Our site comes on the memory card. NAVIGON is available for download and offer a free trial period for all systems except Iphone. Ovi Maps comes pre-installed on several Nokia models regardless of operator selection. The program can also install via Ovi Store, via sms or with programs that will update your phone’s software.

Performance

If you go back a few years, the navigator applications for mobiles significantly slower than standalone navigation devices – in everything from searching for addresses to calculate routes. The differences are now largely gone, although there are some combinations of cell model and applications that are tougher than others. This applies primarily to Route 66, NDrive, Our site and Copilot is compatible even with the slightly older and slower mobiles. To use the navigator application on older Iphones than 3GS can be also requires patience – installation takes longer, and the application must restart each time you answered a call or used any other feature if your phone is not updated to version 4.

On current phones have, however, all program good performance, but the Wisepilot and Our site Navigator can do with good results both on new and old or cheap mobiles, more features are available from the vendor’s servers instead of calculated in the mobile. It provides a useful program to a larger number of phones at the expense of being more dependent on mobile coverage.

Interface

Both screen resolution and processing power in many mobile phone models enough to board the standalone navigatorerna when it comes to interface and graphics, but most programs have invested a bit more pared-down map views and menus in order to maintain compatibility with simpler models. Our site, Route 66, Wisepilot and Our site Navigator has passed the balance well and have interfaces that are stylish and functional even if the Visual effects is less than that of the Copilot and Navigon.

Ndrive is a slightly lower rating because the program is bad at following practice on how menus and text entry to work and uses a solution that is worse than the mobile devices the default arrangement. NAVIGON takes home category because it managed to bring over one of the best looking navigator interfaces – including 3D effects – to your phone without losing speed or ease of use.

Features

A navigator software in the mobile phone opens the door to more features than what can be built into a standard device without connection. It is therefore sad that NDrive has no online features for users in Sweden. Traffic information is not available even in Our site’s Iphone version of Copilot. CoPilot exploits though connection in other ways through its Web service and connections to social networks. Route 66 and Our site for Windows Mobile has some more features with both the weather and traffic information over the cellular network and choose to Navigon or Ovi Maps, you also online search for points of interest and the ability to share position on Facebook.

Applications that take advantage of the benefits of the mobile phone is Wisepilot and Our site Navigator. The search features are superior, especially when you are in Sweden, by coupling to Eniro with search for both sites, businesses and individuals. Our site Navigator receives the highest score, thanks to the ability to search for connections in public transportation.

The winner

Our site Navigator takes home first place in this supertest. The program is largely identical with the Wisepilot and Telenor Navigation, but has a little more search possibilities and also the proper functioning of the connection to public transport. The program is fast and has a clear interface that works well on most platforms – from Android and Iphone to simpler java mobiles. The program’s Achilles heel is the lack of opportunities to pre-install maps, so for overseas travel is Navigon or Ovi Maps better options.
